Weekend Away

The kids and I went to visit my mama this weekend. Talk about a whirlwind trip. We left Saturday morning and left right after church on Sunday. It was fun and exhausting. I've always told my mama that if she wants a visit other than when we're already coming, just to ask, and she is learning slowly that it's okay to ask.
It started with her faking near death experience to all sorts of reasons I needed to go and visit and then I finally asked one time, "are you making this up, or do you just want us to come visit?" She then sheepishly replies, "yeah, can you?" Well, that's all it took, so she is finally learning that it's okay to ask. Boy, just like the kiddos,.."use your words." So she called Thursday and by Saturday we were ready to go. I kind of think she may regret it.
We got there and the kids went immediately to their "treat drawer". This used to be Landon's binky drawer...when he was little he had to have one in his mouth, hold one up against his nose and then one or two in a hand was always good. Since then, it has morphed and now holds all sorts of goodies that all my kids rush to as soon as they get into the house. We played for a few hours and then got a call from my brother who decided it would be really smart to drive a front-end loader from one house to another across town. Well, about halfway there, the loader will not go above 2 mi/hr and he calls for me to drive in front of him so he can warn oncoming traffic and have some light. All is going well (if not slowly) until we pull onto the only highway in our route. We pull onto the highway (aka, the gunbarrel) and it sputters and dies center lane. Talk about luck. No gas. We sit there flashing lights and trying to wave away traffic and I start placing calls to people in my old home ward. I tell you, have you ever wondered where you would be without the church? It took one phone call and two people were there within minutes...one of whom owned a towing company. Now that didn't help so much since it was a hydrolic vehicle, but the extra flashing lights sure did help. Then another member showed up with some gas and watched until we made it the rest of the way. One man I knew (and I absolutely adore him), and the other I didn't, but it didn't matter. Members of this church are the same wherever you go, and while some are just so weird (ex... me), you can count on them like they were the adopted family you always wished you had.
I pointed it out to my nephews, and they say, "wow, that's the power of church."
I said, "no, that's the power of the Lord."
