Happy Birthday Hailey

Oh yeah, we love March.
This is probably one of the most stressful months, but we love it because after Shem, we get a birthday every four days!
To top it all off, we had a Hailey Party at Chuck E. Cheese. Just family because that place is a lot to handle on my own.
We headed off to Colorado Springs around 11:00 (after a ton of errand running), and realized we had forgotten our coupons at home. Cheapskate minds at work is a beautiful thing. We decided our best option with all of the hotels around our destination, that Shem would simply walk in like we had stayed the night at one of these places and ask where their common area computer/Internet is (usually near the front desk). They happily obliged and we found ourselves back in the coupon business.
Hailey loved it. She played and played and we saw some church friends there and even her best friend from school.
We came home to the dinner of her choice (Mc Donald's...which is easier than last year..she requested a Turkey and stuffing)
And then did presents and cake.

Hailey has not a tooth in her head. She is missing every front tooth imaginable. None on top or bottom. We wonder how it is that she still eats at all. Poor thing I tell her every night to go brush what is left of her teeth.

Hailey is has such a soft heart. She loves her family so much. Nothing hurts her more than to think of a sibling hurt or sad. She loves school and her classmates and loves sports. She loves her daddy more than anyone I know (he's pretty lovable), and is my easiest child by a mile. She's a big helper and so tidy I love it. Hailey girl, it still seems like yesterday that I was sitting with Landon wishing for another baby. I got you after lots and lots of prayers. We love you. Happy 7th Birthday.

Shem's Birthday

He had a good one.
Breakfast in bed
An all day "play date" with some friends...yes, it's true...even arranged ahead of time
Philly Cheese Steak Sandwhiches for dinner
Presents and cake

It may not sound like much, but if you know Shem, it's all he needed...well, I guess he is always crazy about new socks too, but...

I love you Shem. Thanks for being the best husband and father EVER!

Happy Birthday Ireland

She has six teeth. Four on top and two on bottom. She loves:
Books
***Music. This is from her very birth. As a newborn the only thing that would soothe her was music. Many times she has been asleep and her legs will wiggle seemingly on their own if there is a beat anywhere around. Classical, country, or even "Shem music". She loves it all.
To talk on the phone (and push the buttons)
Wrinkle her nose and breathe through it so it makes a funny noise while smiling
Read Books
Her brother and sisters
To be extra warm!!
Macaroni and Cheese
Chicken noodle soup
Bath time
Outside
She is quite an accomplished walker (she started early after all...my life is all about chasing her)
She goes up and down stairs (although I still follow her because my heart stops each time)
She says Uh Oh, Mama, Dada, and Uh Uh..while shaking her head no

And now a year later, I cannot picture a sweeter baby or a life without her. She is so sweet and has such an attitude. If a child cries, she walks over to them with her arms out and hugs them until they stop. I feel so very blessed each morning when I hear her wake. I have never had a better alarm and catch myself smiling with each noise. There's something that should be elaborated on...her noises. She will mimic each noise she hears and so we try to do all sorts of noises just to hear her range. We love you baby Ireland. Happy Birthday Blue Eyes...yeah, still blue!

Life with Shem...

Every once in a while, I am blessed to be woken by a still sleeping Shem. Either he is laughing and spouting a whole mess of jumbled words, or talking about horses dying???

Example: Soon after Landon was born

Setting: Our bedroom
Time: 2:30am

I awake to find the bedside table still on. I am groggy, but reach over and gingerly turn it off. What happens next is a little terrifying. Shem (who has his back to me) flips over and into a sitting position and then hovers about two inches in front of my face.

Shem: "WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?"
Me: "Turned the light off"
Shem: IF YOU TURN OFF THE LIGHT, ALL THE HORSES WILL DIE!!"
Me: (stunned) "Do you want me to turn it back on?"
Shem: (disgusted) "It's too late now!"

He rolls over and goes to sleep while I am left pondering what it is I have just killed and why it relates to my lamp.

Fast forward....Like I said, this happens every few months. The last was last night.
I am just drifting off to sleep. Shem has been asleep for the last 30 minutes. The next thing I know I feel Shem jump up and grab our blankets. I figure he is just turning over and so I hold on to my covers with all I can muster but somehow he has caught me in that awkward state in between awake and asleep. He pulls harder. I roll over to see him out of bed and tugging like a crazy person on our covers. I fight back and loudly whisper, "Shem, what are you doing?!"
" I am looking for a new one of...."(as he holds up the comforter). "Why?!" I ask. "I poured water on this one." He replies (again with disgust). By this time I figure he's lost his marbles and say louder, "Shem, are you asleep?" He pulls a face..."No!" Then he walks away and goes to the bathroom.
He comes back awhile later and I ask him what the crap that was all about.
"Sorry hon, I was sleeping..." Now he refuses to talk about it...because in his mind that means it didn't happen.
I am starting to realize that
1. I am the idiot who always tries to figure out what he's talking about when I should know better.
2. He is always more than a little disgusted with my questions
3. I need to have a plan of action for our next incident

Running

Landon and I are starting to run. I am preparing for the Bolder Boulder, and he has been given a running chart from his soccer coach with a "request" that he run at least twenty minutes twice a week in addition to his 1 1/2 hr. soccer practice every Friday.
So one day I got all suited up in my running gear and was met at the door by three other children. Landon, Hailey, and Abby were all crying because they wanted to go too. It was the day I was going to do the 6mi and instead ended up bargaining with Shem and the kids to a 2mi., with the agreement that I wouldn't slow down and they had to either keep up, or get in the car with Dad as he drove along side us. Abby puttered out at about a quarter mile. Hailey made it 1 3/4 mi., and Landon did the whole 2 miles and was barely winded. Way to go kids! Who knew I would grow to have some running companions? Landon's goal is to run in the Bolder Boulder with me. I'll let you know.

Invisible box

The invisible box. AKA your car.
Again, TMI for those of you who don't want it, turn away now. I realize the inappropriate nature of this blog, but find it far to amusing to not share. The other day I was fortunate to buy a new bra. That's right, a new bra (Thank you Lindsey). I left the store wearing my new purchase and was thrilled at how it fit. I got in my car and kept peering down and deciding whether it was worth the money or not. I also thought it appropriate to keep grabbing the edges, and running my hands over it to see if there were any gaps etc...., . When I finally decided it was a worthwhile buy, I realize I am at my fourth stop light and had quite absentmindedly felt myself up in front of countless people.
I decide to glance over at my side to see what type of people had been entertained while I was in my own invisible box and immediately felt better to find the only person looking while I judged my bust line was picking his nose.
He must love his invisible box too.

Ireland at PMC

Parkview Medical Center. Ireland had to be taken to the ER this morning at about 7:00am. We've gone for about a week and a half with a terrible cold. No big deal because we've all had it, but strangely enough it seems to be getting worse again for all of us. Ireland has had a clear runny nose and cough, but last night couldn't sleep unless she was being held and continued to whine all night. This morning she spiked a fever and I knew. I contemplated waiting until tomorrow morning, or waiting for Urgent Care to open, but I knew there would be no wait at our new ER in Pueblo West, so off we went.
The Dr. was super nice and tried to really play it cool and say, "Hey, if she has pneumonia, this antibiotic will clear it." "If she has a respiratory infection, there's nothing I can do, but I do see her ear is bulging...it's not perforated though.." He walks out and sends in a double dose of antibiotic for her ear so it can be administered without the wait. You just blew your cool Doc. She has been crying all morning long....with real tears..it's terrible to see her so sad. It's also her first round of antibiotics, so I'll see how those work with her little tummy. Well, at least we had a good long run without em.
